So, you’re sitting at your computer or cruising the isles at your local bed and bath store, scratching your head and trying to figure out what the perfect housewarming gifts might be.
You don’t want to be the 10th person to hand out yet another bottle of wine, but pot holders or kitchen towels, while practical, just seem like such impersonal housewarming gifts.
If you are going to spend the money on something for your friends or family, why not put together those housewarming gifts that are not only practical, but useful as well. No one wants a gift they are going to have to return or stick away in a cabinet hoping that you never ask them where it is and why they are not using it. Don’t be that person.
Maybe your friends just bought a new home, your kids or your friends kids have just graduated high school and are moving into their first dorm, or even graduated from their dorm into their very first home. For the first-time homeowner, newly married couple, first time parents, or new graduate, there’s a long list of things they’re going to need and a likely a tight budget to fill those needs.
Regardless of the scenario, we have some great housewarming gifts and ideas that are both practical and affordable:
Housewarming Gift Jar
This gift is not only practical because of the contents inside, but the container is useful for so many things. Fill it up to the top with laundry soap, spray bottles, stain brushes, kitchen rags, clothes pins, and anything else you can squeeze into the jar.
If you really want to go big, fill up more than one jar – we promise they will get used. Take it a step further by wrapping the outside of the jar with a pretty ribbon and some kind of print – use a marker or removable stickers from a craft store.
Housewarming Laundry Basket
There are so many occasions where filling a beautiful laundry basket with practical and useful items would be appropriate. For example, while money is generally the most anticipated graduation gift, why not send them off with something practical instead? The same can be said for any new homeowner, graduate, newlywed couple, and even new parents, really. Use your imagination and think about the person you are giving the gift to. What do you think they could use most in this basket? Laundry items, new towels, kitchen utensils, kitchen towels, baby clothes, blankets – the options are limitless!
There probably isn’t a person out there who has said, “moving is fun.” But even while moving, everyone still needs clean clothes. Fill the basket with everything they might need for washing, stains, drying, and even typical household cleaning. Get creative and find a laundry basket that you would not typically see to really make a statement with your gift “basket.” How beautiful would a gift “basket” using the rolling Steele baskets be? Plus so useful and practical. Consider printing out some DIY recipes for laundry and household solutions to save those pennies as well.
Speaking of pennies, if you are crafting the perfect gift for that new grad – you might also consider throwing in a jar of quarters.
Succulent Plants
Moving is tedious and time-consuming. So, you likely do not want to get your friends a gift that they will have to remember to take care of while they already have 100 other things on their mind. Succulent plants are low-maintenance, have a beautiful texture and are generally available in an array of hues.
They’re also compact, making them ideal for smaller homes or even dorm rooms. Depending on who the gift is for, you might only need a single succulent in a small pot or you can create a beautiful succulent garden in a larger planter. Succulent plants can add a hint of color and make a new home look and feel like home, without as much work as a regular household plant. Grab this gorgeous Glass Spray bottle to go with their plants to make it super simple to take care off right out of the gate.
Storage Bins Loaded With Organizational Tools
If you know the person you are gifting is going to be tight on space and may need some tools on hand for organization, this is the perfect gift to give! Pick up some storage bins, drawers, hanging racks, etc… along with some glass or other storage containers.
Make it eye-catching by filling up a couple of the jars or baskets with household items you know they are going to need as well. Laundry soap, wool dryer balls, stain fighting goods, spray bottles for DIY cleaner, Tidy Snaps for organization – the possibilities are endless.
Thank you Cards
This seems like a strange gift, right? But why not pair these with something like the succulent plants or other small gifts. Chances are, your friends are fully focused on moving and settling into their new space. But sending thank you cards is not a thing of the past. Make it easy for them by having them ready to open and send when they are ready! Don’t just grab your everyday thank you cards, find that perfect, special card.
Need something a little smaller but still practical?
Use a smaller bucket or container, or even gather up a couple of smaller items like our laundry stain brush and a package of our liquid detergent and wrap them together with a pretty ribbon.
